About Yoga Raqs
Hello; and welcome to my website. I am a 200 hour Yoga Alliance, registered Yoga Instructor. I am also well into training for my 500 hour advanced certification. I came to Yoga about 10 years ago and began to practice “on and off.” A few years back, I noticed that the stiffness in my hips was increasingly uncomfortable and started a regular practice at All About Yoga in a gentle easy-does-it class. I was astounded that I had previously been practicing with no information about how to take care of my body or how to move into the Asanas (poses) correctly or safely. The easy does it class and than the Basic Beginner class gave me so much valuable information and made me feel so much better on so many different levels, that I simply fell in love with the benefits I was feeling physically, mentally and emotionally.
I had also been involved in the Dance world in one form or another since I was a teenager; and for the past 11 years have loved and been involved in Middle Eastern dance both as a hobby and as a part-time professional dancer. I have performed at many cultural events, private celebrations, and charitable affairs and have given demonstrations and lectures to World Dance classes at UNLV. If only I had found yoga at the same time that I began dancing, what a wonderful compliment that would have been all this time!
I have done Yoga Raqs (pronounced ‘rocks’ meaning – dance) Workshops, a fun experience of blending Middle Eastern Dance with the beautiful movements of Yoga. Recently I have started teaching Bollywood Raqs, a personal version of the exciting and energizing Bollywood Dance. My version has taken the high impact jumping out of the Bollywood Bhangra and created a fun, calorie burning and stamina building experience that every “body” can do and enjoy at their own level.
I have also obtained Pre and Post Natal Yoga teacher certification and have started my own class. This Pre-Post Natal Yoga class is a very nurturing blend of meditation, breathing, relaxation, poses and “community.”
My passion and love for both Yoga and Dance, excites me and keeps me wanting to learn and do more. I am very tuned in to my students, and my goal is to enhance and deepen their practice, understanding and love of any of my classes they may attend, whether it be Yoga or Dance. I truly enjoy introducing the beautiful benefits and philosophies and creativity of everything I teach to each and every one of my students.
Namaste
